About us

SOCIAL ENTERPRISE MAJOLIKA-R, s.r.o.

The company Majolika-R under the leadership of Renáta Hermysová was established in 1990, so for more than 30 years it has been mainly dedicated to the preservation of traditional crafts - cultural heritage of the Slovak nation - the production of traditional Slovak folk majolica. We have been operating as a Sheltered Workshop since 2011 and we have started to include people with disabilities in our work. Today, with slow steps by steps and several-month to several-year learning, our handicapped colleagues produce wonderful products that we are all very proud of.

We have always wanted to show our customers what makes our area significant and unique. That is why we combine the best that our region has to offer - the production of traditional Slovak folk majolica and a wine cellar, where our customers can enjoy a glass of great regional wine or enjoy Slovak specialties.

The year 2020 was a turning point for us - we were hit by the Corona crisis, as well as all other entrepreneurs. We came up with the idea to focus on what the situation required. We have expanded our Sheltered Workshop to include textile production and together we have started sewing protective masks. And since we have been a creative company, we have also set up a small operation in Kamzík, where we still sell bubble waffles, corn dogs and other specialties.

We started to think about a social enterprise in year 2019. In year 2021 we managed to establish the Social Enterprise Majolika-R, s.r.o., where we integrated both companies and preserved jobs for our handicapped employees.

Our handicapped employees receive a salary like any other employee, despite the fact that they are handicapped over 80%. It is not only a physical disability, but also a mental, schizophrenia, or partial dementia. Of course, their performance is not like our ordinary employees, but their every joy, even from a small step forward, pleases us and assures us that our efforts and work make sense.

Since monotonous work is sometimes a problem for such employees, we change them in different locations. With the help of work assistants, they are trained not only for  production of ceramics, but also in textile production and gastronomy.

In addition to preserving cultural heritage, our goal is also the integration of handicapped, vulnerable and disadvantaged people into society and the motivation for independence and the development of their individual abilities.
